Waxing Advice

Remember your post-care routine, prevent ingrown hairs with exfoliation, and know when not to wax for optimal results.

Aftercare

Keep the waxed area clean and avoid heat and friction for 24 hours. This means:

  • No hot baths or showers (warm water only).

  • No saunas, hot tubs or steam treatments.

  • No tanning (sunbathing, sunbeds or fake tans).

  • No sport, gym or other exercise.

  • Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.

  • Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions or other products to the area.

  • Some redness and small bumps are common immediately after waxing and are only temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax. These symptoms should subside over 24-48 hours. If you experience persistent redness or irritation, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

  • After 2 days very gently exfoliate the area 2-3 times a week and keep the area moisturised.

Ingrown Hairs

When it comes to ingrown hairs, prevention is better than cure.  So… EXFOLIATE! Regular gentle exfoliation is essential to shift any build up of dead skin cells that can otherwise trap the hair, and gently exfoliating helps lift new growth to the surface.  The key word here is GENTLE, 3-4 times a week with some exfoliating gloves or a shower puff.  Then… MOISTURISE!  If your skin is dry and tight, new hairs can’t penetrate the upper layers of the epidermis.  A daily application of a plain non-scented moisturiser will keep the skin soft and help those new hairs to grow through easily.

I retail two fantastic products to help prevent and treat ingrown hair, priced from £3 to £16.  Don’t worry, there’s no hard sell here, but if you’re interested then please do ask!

When Not To Wax

Waxing is appropriate for almost everyone, but I will not wax anyone who has any type of diabetes, varicose veins or poor circulation without you having consulted your GP to approve the treatment.

If you’ve used Roaccutane (a treatment for acne) in the last six months I won’t be able to wax you as this medication temporarily weakens the skin.

I work around skin tags, moles, and pimples but I won’t wax skin that is infected, irritated, chapped or suffering from sunburn – please don’t turn up for an appointment if you’re red raw from going on a sunbed the previous day!!

We will discuss any concerns, conditions or medication when we have our initial consultation.

If you are still not sure!

Whether you’ve been waxed before and are thinking of changing therapist, you’re new to waxing, or you’re thinking of booking an appointment and are still unsure, worried or want to ask me anything (especially relating to intimate waxing) - give me a call for a chat.
